DAW PLUGINS TO PRODUCE MUSIC WITH
DJ School Nederland gives private lessons in the production of music. If you’re just starting to produce, you’ve already heard about it: Plugins for your DAW. A “DAW” stands for Digital Audio Workstation or a producer program such as Ableton, Cubase, Logic Pro, Studio One or FL Studio for example. Within such a DAW you need “plugins”. But what are they? Do you really need them? How do you use plugins? Which plugins can be used best? DJ School Nederland has been working with plugins and all popular Daw’S for years. If you want to learn more about this, we advise you to choose at least a hours package of 8, 20 or 40 hours because of the extensive possibilities of various plugins.
Plugins
What are plugins? They are, in short, musical instruments in the form of software. Pianos, guitars, drums, orchestral instruments, synthesizers, everything you can think of. Actually, plugins (in most cases) are software versions of hardware. For example, a synthesizer or piano but digital! Plugins come in two forms: effect-plugins and instrument-plugins. An echo or compressor falls under the category effect plugin, but also think of mix and mastering plugins such as a limiter or saturator. Examples of instrument plugins are virtual variants of physical instruments such as a saxophone, guitar, (electric) piano, synthesizer, drum kit or percussion such as a conga or shakers.
Do you really need plugins?
As a (semi) professional producer/composer/arranger/artist, you will actually need them. Of course there are still real synthesizers and samplers, but the biggest developments are in software. For the very best sound, an instrument plugin is the perfect choice!
Almost everyone who makes music productions in a studio uses instrument plugins. Think of producers and composers for film, TV, Netflix, DJ Mag Top 100 Djs, commercials, radio, video games, corporate videos, songwriting and many other genres. It’s really not just something for the younger generation like Martin Garrix, also a film composer like Hans Zimmer and top producer Armin van Buuren makes use of it.
